Well we are now into the second half of April, and it is freezing up here in the Lakes. Well to be fair, it was freezing when we left Wigan so the bad weather is not confined to the Lake District. In fact, the BBC North West weather forecast mentioned the South Lakes as the place to be tomorrow. Whatever happened to "global warming"?
The sales folks here at Fallbarrow have some shiny new caravans and lodges to sell. It will be interesting to see how successful they are at selling the units considering all the financial bad news that is doing the rounds at the moment. I really do hope they do sell all the units as this will show some confidence in the market. I certainly do not want lots of empty lodges and caravans on site. A good site needs lots of people.
I must admit to being a tad worried over the past few weeks. The last time we were up here was over Easter and we left the lodge on the assumption that the weather would be getting warmer. Unfortunately, there was the cold snap with some overnight freezing. However, all was well with the plumbing and certainly not burst pipes. I did also worry about leaving my boat moored up on Fallbarrow for the last three weeks with the high winds and the rain. But as with the lodge, the boat was fine (mind you four ropes and lots of fenders also helped).
So what is the bottom line here. Well I guess we did not buy up here just to sit cooped up in the lodge with the heating at full blast. With a 20 year old living at home, we also need the heating on there as well. Not very green is it? But then again I stil think the Lakes are a better option than say Spain. I nearly bought a holiday home in Spain (twice in fact) but managed to escape both times with my deposit intact. The properties I nearly bought are now worth significantly less than I originally agreed to pay for them. The price achieved by SLP for the new units will give some indication if I have made any money on my lodge here.
