SLP have applied to extend the season at White Cross Bay by a further 8 weeks. This will mean that the season will run from 1st March in one year to 14th January in the next. I would also suggest that SLP will charge an additional £1000 on the site fees for the privilege.

Being a sad sort of person, I took the trouble to read the submitted application. It really is an interesting read. The benefits of the extending the season as stated by SLP are tenuous to say the least. For example, they state that over 100 people do not buy a holiday property on WXB every year citing the lack of extended season as the reason. Of these 100, at least 10 will buy property in the area and compete with the local population for property. I simply do not believe these figures.

They also state that only 10 properties will be occupied over the winter period at any one time, therefore the impact on the environment will be minimal. This is because most of the caravans and lodges are unsuitable for winter use due to poor insulation. So what happens to these owners. Of course they will still have to pay the increase, but won't be able to take advantage of the extended season.

Unless the good folks at WXB decide to object, then SLP will extend the season without consultation and everybody will have to pay up, regardless of whether they want the extended season, or if their unit is suitable. There will be no choice in the matter.

I was one of a handful of owners at Fallbarrow who refused to pay the increase, and shut my lodge down for the winter and never used it during the "extended season". I this week received a letter threatening me with eviction. I do not want to give any more detail, but now my wife and I are extremely distressed.
