Well over a week has passed since we received the letter from Fallbarrow Park threatening us with eviction if we do not cough up the £1,000 site fee increase. Just for the record, we have already paid £4,700 in site fees, but we are refusing to pay the increase charged by SLP for the season extension.
I do not intend to go into the complexities of why we are currently refusing to pay, but in summary £4,700 per annum does not represent value for money for what we get, and £5,700 (the new proposed fee) even less so even if it does entitle us to use the lodge during the middle of Winter.
We intend to hold out paying for as long as possible. My wife is extremely distressed by this whole experience and just wants to pay up. This has been going on for nearly a year now and I have to say this is not why we bought into the "Fallbarrow" lifestyle. Why should we pay £4,700 for all this aggravation from SLP. However, I would feel just as annoyed if we are forced to pay up.
I have learned a lot from this whole experience. Probably the most important thing is not to be intimidated by SLP. They rely on people just accepting their demands for more and more money without question. Those who dare question are issued with at first thinly disguised and then later explicit threats of eviction. SLP continually state that the majority of people have paid the increase and are happy. Well, I dispute that, preferring to believe that most people were frightened into paying due to the wording on the invoice.
Is this really the way to run a business?
